Boeing 727-200(adv) accident report
Monday 31 March 1986 Mexicana Boeing 727-264 XA-MEM c/n 22414
Flight MX940 from Mexico City (MEX) to Puerto Vallarte (PVR) with 8 crew and 159 passengers. Main gear brake was overheated on take off. The heat caused a main gear tyre to explode at FL310 resulting in an uncontrollable fire and then control was lost.
First flight : 04 May 1981 engines : JT8D-17R All people on board died in the crash. location : crashed on the slope of Mt San Andrés (3,569 meters high) located 18 km southwest of Maravatio, State of Michoacán. +-2km 19°48’20”N 100°35’47”W.
This was the worst air disaster with an 727-200 advanced with 167 killed.
